Phil Packer meets Martin at Warren Park

Kimberley Mitchell 16 April

Phil Packer, John Inverdale and two childrenYesterday Major Phil Packer visited our Warren Park Project where he met Martin Dray and his family.

Martin and his sister Charlotte will be accompanying Phil for mile 8 of his London Marathon Challenge this year. Hear more about Phil’s Challenge and about Martin on our blog here. We were also delighted to welcome John Inverdale of BBC Sport who will be covering the marathon live on the day.

Phil said: "It was a pleasure to meet the staff of Action for Children at Warren Park and to understand the support provided to young people. To spend time with Martin and his sister, Charlie, both who will be accompanying me, was a humbling experience and put into perspective exactly what my marathon this year is for; I sincerely hope that we will be able to raise awareness of the tremendous work that Action for Children delivers and the public will read Martin’s story and donate to ensure the vital support he and many others receive continues."

We would love for as many people as possible to come along on the day to give encouragement to Phil, Martin and Charlotte. They will be doing their mile in Deptford from 3.45 to 4.30pm, starting on the corner of Creek Road and Copperas Street SE8 and ending on Evelyn Street/Grinstead Road SE8 at the edge of Deptford Park.

If you are able to come along, or have any questions, please email me at kimberley.mitchell@actionforchildren.org.uk. See you there!

Every Disabled Child Matters logoThe Every Disabled Child Matters campaign is asking as many people as possible to contact candidates who are standing in the upcoming general election and ask them to sign up to do the following if they're elected:

1. Meet with disabled children, young people and their families to discuss key issues of concern to them.

2. Raise these issues of concern, and promote rights and resources for disabled children, young people and families from their constituency in Parliament.

3. Visit local services for disabled children and their families on a regular basis.

4. Support measures to transform services for disabled children and their families, such as the Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) programme in England.

5. Find out how funding is being used in their constituency to improve services for disabled children, young people and their families.

You can approach your MP and other local candidates and ask him or her to support the campaign: email your local political candidates
