Once you are approved as an Action for Children foster carer, we will work to appropriately match you and your family with the children or young people who will best thrive in your household.
We always consider children and young people’s individual needs as well as your skills, experience and background.
Many of the children who need foster care come from families who have faced extreme hardship and difficulties in their lives.
There is no ‘typical’ child that we place, as each has their own situation and life history.
Some of the children who need a safe and caring home are from minority ethnic populations, some are over the age of 10, some have a range of special needs and display challenging behaviour, and some are in sibling groups which would need to stay together when possible.
A number of the children and young people in care have experienced distress, damaging experiences and significant abuse or neglect. Some have a range of complex needs or have significant disabilities, while others are in care because they exhibit challenging or harmful behaviour.
Every child or young person is unique and has their own needs, and Action for Children will give you all the appropriate information you need about the children and young people in your care to support them to grow with hope and confidence.
