Youthbuild helps unemployed young people aged 16 to 24 turn their lives around.
Getting a job is difficult when you don’t have qualifications. It’s even harder when you’ve had problems with drugs or alcohol, have a criminal conviction or don’t have support you can count on.
Fresh hope
Youthbuild helps unemployed young people in Glasgow’s most deprived areas. Nine months of work in the construction industry and intensive support means young people can make big changes in their lives.
The project has been really successful. Youthbuild has supported over 60 young people to access employment and training within the construction industry so far, with around one-fifth of those moving on to modern apprenticeship schemes.
Three-quarters of all the young people who have been supported by Youthbuild have gone on to find permanent jobs or training within the construction industry.
Changing communities
The changes the young people make are contagious; it makes a difference to their families, friends and communities.
Youthbuild has been highlighted as one of the best ways to help disadvantaged young people by the Scottish Government.
Here at Action for Children, we want even more young people to have a chance to achieve their full potential through projects like Youthbuild.
