Therapeutic approaches
We use a range of therapeutic approaches to help pupils deal with distress and personal issues. These approaches help them to form attachments, communicate, access our high-quality education and become more self-reliant and responsible. We address those aspects of their lives that have caused them emotional trauma and may be inhibiting their emotional and social growth.
These approaches include:
- Psychotherapy – often known as counselling, our trained therapist helps young people through conversations
- Positive behaviour management – focusing on the positive in everything the pupil says and does within the school community
- Behaviour management – using a variety of interventions, including negative and positive reinforcement, to decrease the frequency of dysfunctional or maladaptive behaviour
- Solution-focused therapy – focusing on uncovering and understanding the young person’s problems
- Art therapy – helping to resolve deep attachment issues and confusion
- Play therapy - helping children to find healthier ways of communicating and develop fulfilling relationships.
