Andrea And Her Dad

Case study: Andrea's story

Like many children we work with Andrea often has tasks to do at home. But these aren't like most children's tasks to get a bit of extra pocket money - Andrea takes care of her dad Saeed, when he is poorly.

Saeed and Andrea first came to Action for Children two years ago, they were desperate for help and couldn't continue the way they were. When we met them, Andrea said she had to do tasks around the house like cooking, cleaning and running errands. These may sound like simple things to a grown-up, but not a seven-year-old child, especially when combined with the constant worry about her dad.

We immediately started working with the family to see what we could do to ease the pressure on Andrea. Saeed says that Action for Children have been amazing - and have completely transformed their lives. Sometimes we are only helping with the little things, like doing the shopping, or visiting Andrea in school, but often it's the little things that make a huge difference. Since Andrea has been attending our project the changes in her and her dad have been amazing. They are both far happier and Andrea's responsibilities at home have been greatly reduced.

Andrea joins us for fun days out - from ice skating, to crafts to photography. Andrea loves anything creative, and when she grows up she wants to be an artist.
