Action for Children is urging people to think about the needs of
their local community over the holiday season, and support some of
the most vulnerable and neglected children, young people and
families in their area.
The charity and celebrity supporters are calling on people to
visit my.actionforchildren.org.uk and through a few simple clicks
donate to support their life changing work locally. Action for
Children supports over 150,000 children, young people and families
through projects in the heart of communities across the UK. The My
Action for Children website enables the public to choose
exactly where and what their money goes towards, helping either an
Action for Children project close to home - or close to their
heart.
The call follows research conducted by the charity earlier this
year which revealed that more than two thirds (68%) of the UK is
not involved at all in their local community, yet of those
concerned about local children, 77% either don't know how or do not
have the time or resources to help.
Simply typing in a postcode shows exactly how people can donate
money directly to the Action for Children projects closest to
them.
Actor Larry Lamb, and My Action for Children supporter, commented:
"We know that people really, really want to help those most in
need, but they just don't know how to go about it. From 50p to
£500, it doesn't matter how much you can give, but it is the giving
that counts. It is the small things that make a big difference and
can light up a child's life, showing them that someone
cares."
Amir Khan, British professional boxer, said: "Check out My.actionforchildren.org.uk to see how simple
it is to lend a hand to youngsters who need your help in your
community. A couple of clicks is all it takes to make a difference
to the people who really need it."
TV star, Alex Jones, commented: "Local people supporting local
projects that directly help kids, is a great idea. Log on now, to
my.actionforchildren.org.uk"
Professional footballer, Frank Lampard, said: "I think that being
able to help children directly is a wonderful idea and that my.actionforchildren.org.uk can make a real
difference to thousands of children's lives."
Polly Neate, Executive Director of External Relations and
Communications at Action for Children, said: "We know people want
to help charities and services in their own community but something
stops them from taking the first step. Supporting a charity doesn't
need to be complicated - and your support means that some of the
most vulnerable children and families can look forward to a
brighter future ahead. In difficult times, the holiday season seems
the ideal time to offer that helping hand in your own
neighbourhood, village or town."
