Tom Parker Bowles Launches Charity Eggstravaganza with ‘World's Most Eggsclusive Breakfast’
National Team
23 November 2011
Celebrated food writer and broadcaster, Tom Parker Bowles,
kicked off the countdown to the world's biggest ever Easter egg
hunt in luxurious style when he hosted an event at The Goring Hotel
on the 22nd November 2011. Select guests
were treated to a taste of The Goring's latest culinary creation
commissioned by Fabergé, billed as the world's most
'eggsclusive' breakfast.
In anticipation of the first ever 'The
Fabergé Big Egg Hunt' in London this Easter, Head
Chef, Derek Quelch, debuted 'Eggs Fabergé' - the first breakfast
dish ever to be commissioned by headline sponsor,
Fabergé, comprising smoked salmon, scrambled Burford
Brown eggs, quail's egg, lobster, and caviar. The dish will be
added to the menu at The Goring Hotel throughout the duration of
The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt.
The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt takes place in
London in 2012 and aims to raise up to £2 million for leading
children's charity, Action for Children, and Elephant Family - the
UK's biggest funder for the endangered Asian
elephant.
Speaking at the event, Tom Parker Bowles, said: "The
Fabergé Big Egg Hunt is a really incredible and
ground-breaking event that is sure to capture the public's
imagination. It's a fantastic and fun way for people to support
Action for Children and Elephant Family.
"I can't think of a better way to launch the countdown to
the world's largest Easter egg hunt than by preparing one of the
world's most exclusive breakfasts. Judging by the fortunate few who
wolfed it down so swiftly this morning, the dish proved to be a
huge success.
"Not only is The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt aiming
to raise up to £1 million for each charity, it is also looking to
achieve a Guinness World Record for the biggest ever Easter egg
hunt - so it really is an eggciting time all round!"
Members of the public will be encouraged to take part in
the massive Easter egg hunt across Central London, which will
feature 200 giant and uniquely crafted, strategically placed eggs,
scattered throughout the capital. Entrants have the 40 days
and nights of Lent - starting on Shrove Tuesday (21 February 2012)
- to hunt down as many eggs as possible.
The two-and-a-half foot fibreglass eggs will be
exclusively adorned and decorated by some of the world's leading
artists, architects, jewellers and designers including the Chapman
Brothers, Vivienne Westwood, Giles Deacon, Zandra Rhodes, Diane Von
Furstenberg, Sophie Dahl, Rob Ryan, William Curley, Bompas and Parr
and Polly Morgan.
The eggs, which are destined to become highly collectible
works of art, will be available to buy once the hunt is over at
three specially arranged auctions, with proceeds from the sales
going to Action for Children and Elephant Family. The jewel in the
crown of this auction will be an exclusively designed, one of a
kind jewelled egg pendant by headline sponsor Fabergé, in
collaboration with Nicky Haslam. All proceeds from the sales will
go to Action for Children and Elephant
Family.
Action for Children's Chief Executive, Dame Clare
Tickell, said: "The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt is a
really innovative and fun way to raise awareness and vital funds to
support vulnerable and neglected children, young people and
families across the UK. It's a great opportunity to get members of
the public involved in what promises to be an exciting and engaging
event.
"We stand to benefit from around £1 million from the
event, which will make a real difference to the 150,000 families we
support every year. It's particularly heartening to know that the
money, which will allow us to continue helping the most
vulnerable children overcome the obstacles in their lives and
to achieve their full potential, will have been raised thanks to an
event which will be hugely enjoyable for the thousands of people
who become involved with it."
Elephant Family Director, Ruth Powys, said: "From the
charity that brought you Elephant Parade, we give you, in
partnership with Action for Children, The Fabergé Big
Egg Hunt. It's about time to have some fun again. Forget about your
worries - for 40 days and 40 nights we're going to put a smile on
your faces and brighten up our great capital city. Like everybody,
charities are up against it and you need to think out of the box,
so welcome to another fun and vital initiative to protect our
children and the endangered animals that share their
world".
Sarah Fabergé, great granddaughter Peter Carl
Fabergé and Special Projects Director at Fabergé said: "Eggs
have become synonymous with Fabergé and it is almost impossible to
think of one without the other! The egg is symbolic to so many
nations and cultures given its associations with life and rebirth.
How fitting then that we should sponsor The Big Egg Hunt, raising
money for Action for Children and Elephant
Family".
Jeremy Goring of The Goring said: "I am Eggstatic that The
Goring is playing a part in this event; huge elephants and small
children both deserve to be treasured and protected so we are
delighted to be able to help. Also, this event is going to be such
a brilliant laugh - how could we not be involved?"
It's not too late to get involved; there are various
sponsorship opportunities for businesses on offer. Don't miss
