The first art and dance sessions, held on 26 January, proved
popular with attendees who ranged from age ten to 16, and it is
hoped that even more interest in places will be generated for this
coming week.
Staff at Action for Children, the charity which runs Halton
Youth Service on behalf of Halton Borough Council, want young
people to come and get creative with renowned sculptor and mosaic
master, Russell Kirk, in the art sessions by making giant, tribal
masks.
Or, the more energetic-minded can raise their BPM and join 'The
Crew' to learn Hip Hop dance moves, get fit and increase
self-confidence. Pepito and SugaGill, the experienced practitioners
of the hip hop session, will bring boundless energy and enthusiasm
to the Grangeway-based centre.
Rob Warburton, Action for Children project worker, who organised
the activities and encouraged local youngsters to come and get
involved, said:
"There's still time to come and join in with one or both of the
Thursday classes, so why not pop down to see us this week? Art
starts at 3.30pm and finishes at 5.30pm and hip-hop is from 6pm to
8pm."
Councillor John Swain, Executive Board Member for Children and
Young People at Halton Borough Council, said:
"Halton's youth service excels at creating opportunities for the
young people of the borough to try out exciting activities. This is
a chance to do just that, whilst also meeting new people and
developing skills. "
In addition to this, as part of the HRMZ music programme, dj
workshops will be commencing on Thursday 23rd February.
