Runners needed for the Silverstone half marathon
26 January 2012
Action for Children is calling on runners to follow in the
tyre tracks of Hamilton and Button and run around the world's most
famous motor race circuits to help vulnerable and disadvantaged
children.
The adidas Silverstone Half Marathon 2012 takes place on
Sunday 11 March at the historic racing circuit, giving runners a
flat and fast 13.1 mile course, as well as a unique opportunity to
experience the home of British Grand Prix.
Public entry for the race has now closed, but Action for
Children still has a few places left and staff are urging people to
put on their running shoes and gear themselves up for the famous
run in their home county.
Debbie Smith, Action for Children fundraiser, said:
"The Silverstone Half Marathon is a great event and perfect for
runners attempting their first half marathon or it's an ideal
warm-up for a full marathon. There is always a great atmosphere and
sense of occasion on the day. Every penny raised helps Action for
Children continue its vital work with children, young people and
families across the UK."
Action for Children supports more than 200,000 children,
young people and their families through 480 projects across the UK
for as long as it takes to make a difference in their
lives.
Debbie added: "We hope to raise around £4,500 from this
event, which will do so much to help the children and families we
support. I'd like to urge anyone who is looking for a bit of a
challenge to take their action for children and run Silverstone
Half Marathon."
Anyone signing up to the Action for Children Running Team
will receive an Action for Children running vest, training plans,
advice and a fundraising pack.
The guaranteed place entry fee is £20 and participants are
asked to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship.
