Action for Children's response to the joint APPG report on children who go missing from care
18 June 2012
Sue Cotton, Head of Children's Programmes at Action for
Children, said:
"This report is crucial in highlighting how the UK's most
vulnerable children and young people are being let down by a system
that is meant to protect them.
All of our work with children and families shows us that individual
needs are paramount when placing a child. Regulatory measures need
to be joined up and robust so if a child is placed away from home,
it needs to be in their best interests so their lives can be turned
around.
Action for Children welcomes the urgency of the government's action
to tackle serious failings of the current system. All suggested
reforms need to look deeper into the standards of care and exactly
why vulnerable children have been put at risk the way they
have."
