Chair of Trustees vacancy

20 March 2012

About us

Action for Children works with the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people across the UK and has done so for over 140 years.

We have a vision of a world where all children and young people have a sense of belonging, and are loved and valued - a world where they can fulfil their potential, shape their destiny and experience the joy of life.

We work in local communities with 50,000 children and young people through 480 children's projects across the UK.

Our 6,500 staff and 1,700 regular volunteers are at the forefront of delivering excellent services and last year our income was £180m.

The vacancy

It is an exciting and challenging time for us and we are looking for an exceptional individual who will follow the outstanding leadership of our current Chair, Pamela Chesters, who will stand down in August 2012.

The Chair of Action for Children has a pivotal role in ensuring that we continue to stay true to our mission, particularly at a time when there are severe funding constraints. Working with Trustees to take an overview of the strategic direction and with the Chief Executive, the Chair is key in ensuring that we innovate and provide quality services to those who need us most. Ensuring the safeguarding of children is at the heart of what we do.

We want to hear from individuals who have worked at Board level, are demonstrably successful in their own field and who will be able to understand the challenges we face and so provide strategic leadership for Council (our trustee board) and the Executive.
