Local politicians are captured for charity

8 March 2012

Shona Robison MSP and Joe Fitzpatrick MSP have agreed to be 'captured' on the Tay - in order to raise money for Action for Children Scotland.

The SNP politicians are taking part in Action for Children's Captured on the Tay event on 30 March. Armed with only a mobile phone and a list of business contacts, colleagues and friends, the Very Important Prisoners will aim to raise £500 each in order to secure their release.

Shona Robison MSP said: "I would encourage people from Dundee to take part in Captured on the Tay to raise money for Action for Children Scotland. The charity runs many valued services in the area and I am looking forward to having fun being 'captured', lending my support and - most importantly - being released!"

Joe FitzPatrick MSP added: "I will be doing my utmost to raise at least £500 to help Action for Children Scotland support the country's most vulnerable children, young people and their families. I am also looking forward to a bit of healthy competition between myself and Shona Robison, MSP for Dundee City East - I hope that Dundee City West won't let me down!"

Places are still available for willing captives to take part in the event, and Action for Children Scotland is calling for Dundonians to show their support by signing up to be captured.

Action for Children Area fundraiser for Scotland East, Clare Pieroni, explained:  "We want to Dundonians from all walks of life to be 'captured' during this fantastic and fun event on 30 March, and help us raise vital funds to help children, young people and families in the area."

Dave Bowman, Dundee United coach; Chris van der Kuyl, chief executive officer of Brightsolid and Derek Souter, director Blackscroft Property Ltd are also taking part in the event.

Clare added: "This year Dundee's captives will go head-to-head with fundraisers in Glasgow, who are being captured and held for our Captured on the Clydechallenge - so the pressure is really on for generous Dundonians to dig deep and help us beat the Glasgow total!"

All money raised will go towards funding a creche at the Action for Children Scotland's Dundee Families Project, which will help parents to attend the support groups without having to worry about finding childcare.
