Autumn environment themed fun days for Sheffield families at children's centres

10 October 2012

Action for Children is encouraging local families to come along and take part in one of two autumn environment themed fun days in Sheffield.

The fun days, which will run on Wednesday 17 October and Thursday 18 October at Burngreave Children's Centre and Owlerbrook Children's Centre, have been organised as part of the charity's Energy Counts scheme with energy company, E.ON. The programme is designed to help young people and families develop practical and effective ways of reducing their energy consumption.

There will be activities for children, including arts and crafts, as well as pracitcal information for parents. Representatives will be there from a variety of organisations, including E.ON who will be providing tips on how to reduce energy consumption and save money on fuel bills.

At Burngreave Children's Centre theme day, on Wednesday 17 October, there will also be a local walk around the area and some food will be provided over lunchtime.

The fun days are free and are for families with a child under 5 years old or who are expecting a new baby.

Amran Souleiman from Burngreave Children's Centre said: "We're really looking forward to the fun days in Sheffield. It's a great opportunity for families to come along and meet other parents from the local area and to get some useful advice from different organisations. Particularly coming into the winter, it will be useful for families to get tips from E.ON on how they can save energy and money in their homes."

Billie-Jean Poole, Senior Community Relations Officer at E.ON, said: "It's wonderful to be working with Action for Children and helping support local families in getting energy fit. Together, we've developed a programme that looks at the most practical and effective ways of maintaining an energy efficient home. We are all really excited about the theme days in Sheffield and urge all local families to get involved!"
