Fostering side 1 - smile

Children who need fostering

Every child who comes into foster care is different. Many of the children who need foster care have faced extreme hardship and difficulties in their lives.

"My foster carers helped me, but they also helped my mum. Because of them I'm living at home again."

There is no 'typical' child that we place, as each has their own situation and life history. Some of the children who need a safe and caring home are from minority ethnic populations, some are over the age of 10, some have a range of special needs or display challenging behaviour, and some are in sibling groups which need to stay together wherever possible.

"I have a routine now, I have days I have to wash my hair. It made a really good difference being here with them."

Once you are approved as an Action for Children foster carer, we'll work to match you and your family with the children or young people who will best thrive in your household. We'll give you all the information you need about the children and young people in your care so you can support them to grow and develop.

"I feel safe and secure and like part of the family. They help if there is anything wrong."

Almost 94% of children and young people said living with an Action for Children foster carer had helped them, with 80% saying it had helped them a lot.

"I like being part of a family that fosters because some weekends we go places we would not have been before. Its fun to have a friend to play with."
