Former child migrants
If you or
one of your relatives was sent to Canada or Australia by Action for
Children (previously known as NCH or National Children's Home)
through the Child Migration Schemes, we have services available to
help you.
Access to records
If you were sent to Canada or Australia through Action for
Children, please get in touch with us or, if you prefer, ask an
independent social worker to do this on your behalf. We look
forward to hearing from you.
If you are a descendant of a former child migrant or home child
and wish to know if we have records relating to your family, please
write to us telling us about your relative. We will ask you to send
proof of your identity and relationship. We will then do all we can
to help. Please note that relatives may have to pay a small fee to
cover our costs.
Support
Anyone accessing records will need time to discuss the content
of those records and may need support at that time. We know from
experience that accessing records from the past can be very
emotional. Circumstances may be distressing and language may be
offensive by today's standards.
For that reason, we ask former child migrants and their
relatives to contact a counsellor near to them. We will work
through this person to make sure that you receive the services you
need.
