Birth relatives
If you are a relative of someone who was adopted through
Action for Children, we can provide support and intermediary
services.
We feel a strong commitment to all birth relatives involved in
adoption through Action for Children. Our trained adoption support
workers are fully aware of the emotional impact adoption has on the
lives of all concerned.
If you are a birth parent, we can help you talk through the many
complex issues involved in asking for information or contacting
your adopted child. If you have just discovered that you have a
sibling who was adopted, we can help you understand why this may
have happened. We also support grandparents of adopted
children.
Our adoption workers can help you to identify the most
appropriate source of support for you. This support includes:
- providing advice and counselling to explain the adoption
process
- help with maintaining contact with an adopted relative
- support with obtaining information that the adopted person may
need later in life

If you have any questions or would like more information, please
don't hesitate to contact us.
After you contact us
After you contact us, you will be offered a confidential
interview with an experienced adoption support worker to discuss
your reasons for contacting us and to explore all avenues that may
be of help to you.
You may want to know how your child has progressed. You may not
want to search for your relative but you may like to write a letter
to be given to him or her if they enquire about you.
If you want to contact your relative, the adoption support
worker will help you consider the possible outcomes. They may be
able to offer you an intermediary service and direct you to an
agency that can help with tracing them, if applicable, for which
there may be a charge.
