Family centres and family support projects
Our family centres and family support projects provide a
broad range of services.
From early years services for all families to targeted
interventions where issues have been identified, we can support
families to ensure their children reach their full potential.
Help from the start
Getting involved from the first years of a child's life is
important. That's what we do with our parenting programmes, health
services and early years education. Working individually with
pre-school children who have a disability, developmental delay or
sensory impairment, we enable children to play and develop new
skills.
We're there when services can be most effective - to help
parents understand their children's needs and to identify potential
issues early on and prevent them from getting worse. It's all about
ensuring children get the best start in life.
Work with schools
Working with schools, we promote educational attendance and
attainment and provide opportunities for leisure, breaks and play.
Our work also extends to confronting bullying, discriminatory and
anti-social behaviour.
Targeted services
For families in more complex situations that are significantly
affecting the well-being of children, we offer effective,
problem-solving interventions. One-to-one and group work, alongside
tailored packages of psychological support, is how we do it. Giving
families access to support services to help with external stresses
such as housing and debt is another important service that we
offer. It can really help get families back on track and give their
children a better start in life.
For families at crisis point we offer emergency support and
welfare advice and a residential 'Time Out' element for up to 72
hours and a 24/7 on-call system.
Making support available to all families and children from all
backgrounds is what we aim for. The emotional and practical support
for asylum seekers and refugees offered in our centres is a shining
example of our commitment to this. All of our targeted services
work to improve resilience and family attachments, and a reduction
in family breakdown.
Assessing risk
We also provide comprehensive risk assessments on referred
families, child protection assessments, and court reports with
future planning recommendations for looked after children and
children on the Child protection register.
Flexible services
By providing services in the family home and at local community
venues, we can ensure that families get the support they need, when
they need it.
