Intensive family support
Problems with a child's behaviour can stem from many
roots, but for families already trying to cope with multiple
social, health and economic issues, providing help becomes
increasingly difficult
Children in these familes face a number of issues
These might include:
- poor physical and mental health
- domestic violence
- substance misuse
- a lack of basic and life skills
46,000 families just like this are struggling in England
today
They account for:
- one in five youth offences
- a large number of exclusions from school
- Adults in these families are also up to 34 times more
likely to need drug and alcohol treatment than the average
person.
Professionals have recorded child protection concerns in a third
of these homes.
How do Action for Children's support these families?
We provide intensive family support aimed at:
- keeping children out of care
- preventing anti-social behaviour
- raising the self-esteem of vulnerable
parents
- helping overcome neglect and poverty
- improving educational attendance
- preventing homelessness
