Intensive family support

Child and adult smiling whilst colouring inProblems with a child's behaviour can stem from many roots, but for families already trying to cope with multiple social, health and economic issues, providing help becomes increasingly difficult

Children in these familes face a number of issues

These might include:

  • poor physical and mental health
  • domestic violence
  • substance misuse
  • a lack of basic and life skills

46,000 families just like this are struggling in England today

They account for:

  • one in five youth offences
  • a large number of exclusions from school
  • Adults in these families are also up to 34 times more likely to need drug and alcohol treatment than the average person.

Professionals have recorded child protection concerns in a third of these homes.

How do Action for Children's support these families?

We provide intensive family support aimed at:

  • keeping children out of care
  • preventing anti-social behaviour
  • raising the self-esteem of vulnerable parents
  • helping overcome neglect and poverty
  • improving educational attendance
  • preventing homelessness
