Work with children who have been sexually abused
Our services support and treat children, young people and
their families who have been affected by sexual abuse.
Long-term support
We know that children who have been sexually abused need
long-term support. That's why we offer individual support for
as long as it takes. Our service makes use of proven techniques
such as therapeutic play, creative arts and psychotherapy as
appropriate.
Helping the child or young person make sense of life experiences,
highlighting their strengths and potential, and teaching them to
cope with difficulties - these are all valuable methods used in our
services.
Family support
Supporting the siblings and carers of those affected by abuse is
important. So, we provide a wide range of individual, group and
family treatment interventions and therapy, with a 360-degree
therapeutic approach.
A special support service, including counselling, is also available
to carers and non-abusing parents. This increases their knowledge
and understanding of the effects of abuse and of the therapeutic
process.
Tackling the wider issue
We offer support and consultative services to other
professionals working with children and young people who have
suffered sexual abuse. By monitoring, evaluating and contributing
to research, we can help tackle child sexual abuse head on.
Action for Children's Safe and Secure network
Set up to improve the accessibility of services for children, young
people and their families who have been affected by sexual abuse,
the Safe and Secure network focuses on:
- promoting strong networks and partnerships with other agencies
and organisations
- developing specialist training
- sharing best practice
- looking at services for disabled and black minority ethnic
(BME) children
- developing the evidence base (including commissioning
small-scale studies of the impact of innovations within the
projects)
