Backing the future
The Happiness Counts project - so named by the young
people involved with the project - has now concluded with the
Backing the future report.
The project is a partnership between Action for Children and NEF (the
New Economics Foundation), one of the UK's leading independent
think-and-do-tanks. The Backing the future report calls on
governments to invest in preventative services for children and
young people. We show that investing now to promote children's
wellbeing is in the public interest, not just because it ensures
more effective use of public resources but because it delivers
improved social outcomes and ultimately, benefits us all.
Governments across the UK can configure targeted and universal
service provision for children in a way that positively impacts on
their experiences and on their longer term outcomes. There needs to
be a cross party commitment to invest in essential universal
services to build the foundations of a society that is better and
fairer for our families and communities, and where children can
live happy and fulfilled lives.
