“I have my own two grown-up children in their twenties and prior to being a foster carer I had been working in banking for 21 years before running a fast food restaurant. I wanted a new challenge in life, and it was after I got talking to my son’s girlfriend (who was fostered) that I knew what that should be.”

After hearing her story Steven knew this was his calling and contacted us straight away.

I thought being a man I would have a lot of barriers but with Action for Children this wasn't the case. As soon as I picked up the phone I felt reassured and welcomed, and the application process began immediately.

Several years later and there’s been no looking back. Steven says: “No two days are the same as a foster carer and I am amazed at the development of each child. I really would recommend fostering to anyone especially if you enjoy being around children and are looking for a change of job or to do something worthwhile."

There are thousands of children out there that need help, and as long as you have a spare room there’s no stopping you!
