What's it all for?

The Giant Wiggle isn't just a bit of fun.

Across the UK there are 1.5 million children who need us to step in and help them to get their childhoods back. Action for Children is here for any child in need, whether they are hungry, disabled, in care or anything in between.

We do what’s right, we do what’s needed and we do what works to help vulnerable children to move forward and reach their full potential.

We help children like Stephen

3-year-old Stephen has complex needs which made it hard for him to communicate and his mum, Jenny, was too scared to leave him with anyone else.

Jenny says, "Sometimes it used to get really hard at home because Stephen would try and communicate with me, and I would have to try and guess what he wanted. It was really frustrating for him but for me it was really sad that he couldn’t tell me what he wanted.”

“Stephen had sensory issues – he didn’t like his hands getting messy. But after coming to the centre and watching the other children play, gradually he’s started to get involved in messy play. What’s really surprised me is that he likes to do the gardening with me. I get so excited to see him join in with me. For me, it’s huge progress.”

With more than 600 services nationwide, we are supporting children in your local community. The money you raise helps to inspire hope and transform the lives of thousands of disadvantaged children each year.

  • £20 could pay for 15 hungry children to come to one of our breakfast clubs
  • £75 could pay for families at one of our children’s centres to receive a fruit and vegetable bag, to help them have a balanced and healthy diet for all the family.
  • £200 could pay for intensive work to prevent a vulnerable child being taken into care
  • £500 could help us support 5 mothers facing severe post-natal depression and so making sure their babies are kept safe
