“We’re looking for local people to foster children in the Midlands”
Monday 10 May 2021
This Foster Carer Fortnight, Action for Children launches an extended fostering outreach to the Midlands. Debbie Tomlinson, Head of Fostering services in England, born and raised in the Midlands, tells us why this project is close to her heart.
Our launch
I’m excited to announce that today, Action for Children Fostering is opening a new branch. Our small fostering service in the North West will now be operating in the West Midlands.
We’ll be basing our new fostering service in Birmingham, next to our already well-established adoption service. By doing this we can reach more vulnerable children and have a larger positive impact.
We’re looking forward to operating in the Midlands, finding more fostering families and reaching more children and offering safe homes for children and young people”
Adrienne, fostering team manager
Our experienced team can’t wait to get to work. The team manager, Adrienne, says, “We’re looking forward to operating in the Midlands, finding more fostering families and reaching more children and offering safe homes for children and young people”.
Fostering in the West Midlands
Supporting young people in this area is close to my heart. I have a personal connection to this area, I was born and bred in the West Midlands and still live here now.
I’ve always been passionate about helping vulnerable children. It makes me so happy that we can open a service in my hometown. I used to work as a social worker here in various roles for many years. I love that we’re supporting local people keep children safe.
Birmingham has the highest number of children in care in the country. The need for foster carers in this area is urgent.
Debbie
The need for foster carers in this area is urgent. There is no such thing as a typical foster carer, we welcome families of all shapes and sizes. What we care about is if you like being around children and can provide a safe and stable home.
We’re a not-for-profit charity with over 100 years’ experience in fostering. We cover a wide area, but all our services have a family feel. What I love about Action for Children is that we are one big family.
What our Foster Carers say
We chose Action for Children as we liked their ethos and they’re family orientated. I feel like a valued member of the team
