Herbalife press release

A team of 20 Herbalife Nutrition employees switched their desks for painting overalls last Friday as they gave the rooms at Action for Children’s Merryfields centre in High Wycombe a contemporary makeover.

It was the second such visit to the disability short breaks service by Herbalife Nutrition staff this month to assist with a redecorating project.

During the latest visit and under the watchful eyes of some of the young people supported by the service, the group of volunteers spent the day stripping back walls and applying fresh coats of paint to revitalise the space which houses many of the centres key care, games and social activities.

Commenting on the activity, Action for Children service co-ordinator, Shamila Aslam, said: “We’re so grateful to Herbalife Nutrition for its commitment to us here at Merryfields and for so kindly volunteering to smarten up our working space. It’ll make such a difference to the children who spend their short breaks here, brightening up their lounge, dining room and bedrooms.”

The decorating session is the first of many activities planned during February as part of a worldwide Herbalife Nutrition initiative, known as the ‘Global Month of Purpose’, where staff across three continents in four countries are encouraged to volunteer working hours by contributing to and helping improve their communities.

In the UK, volunteer activities will take place at two of Action for Children’s ‘Casa Herbalife’ locations: Merryfields in High Wycombe and its Hackney Young Carers project.

The Herbalife Family Foundation has been helping to fund and provide volunteers to Action for Children since 2006.

Edi Hienrich, senior vice president & managing director at Herbalife Nutrition EMEA and India, said: “It was wonderful to see that the children really appreciated what we’ve accomplished here.
It’s rewarding to see how a relatively small contribution from us towards the great work of Action for Children can make a big difference. And we all had a fun day in aid of a good cause.”

Action for Children’s Merryfields service provides short breaks to children with disabilities and their families. All the children have learning disabilities and some children having additional physical, health or sensory needs.

The service provides a fun and stimulating environment, promoting positive peer relationships and independence skills.

The ongoing support from the Herbalife Family Foundation and Herbalife Nutrition volunteers has allowed Merryfields to provide cooking sessions to help introduce the children to healthy and nutritious food, such as a wide variety of fruit and has purchased equipment, which has allowed the children to make healthier food choices.

Additionally, Herbalife Nutrition's funding has allowed the Action for Children centre to renovate its greenhouse allowing the children to have a better understanding of where their food comes from.
