Fostering payments

Fostering is a commitment of the heart, and it’s important to feel confident about the practical side too.

This page brings together some of the fostering payment guidance you need - from fees and allowances to financial support, tax, benefits and how fostering can work alongside a full‑time job. It’s here to help you understand how the financial side of fostering supports you, so you can focus on what matters most: changing a child or young person’s life.

Can I work and foster?

Being a foster carer does not prevent you from having additional paid employment. In some parts of the UK, however, the main carer is required to be available full-time. Contact your local Action for Children Fostering service to find out more.
