Fostering payments
Fostering is a commitment of the heart, and it’s important to feel confident about the practical side too.
This page brings together some of the fostering payment guidance you need - from fees and allowances to financial support, tax, benefits and how fostering can work alongside a full‑time job. It’s here to help you understand how the financial side of fostering supports you, so you can focus on what matters most: changing a child or young person’s life.
Financial support, tax and benefits
Financial support is an important part of fostering, and this page explains the help available to you. Here you’ll find information on fostering payments, tax, benefits and other financial guidance to support you in your role as a foster carer

Can I work and foster?
Being a foster carer does not prevent you from having additional paid employment. In some parts of the UK, however, the main carer is required to be available full-time. Contact your local Action for Children Fostering service to find out more.
Fostering fees and allowances
We want our foster carers to know that they can afford to care for a child.
