Big Welcome

Welcoming young people into a foster home.

We work with children and young people to make sure they have the best experience possible when they move to a new home.

Big Welcome

Big Welcome is an online foster carer profile to help welcome a young person into a new home.

Young people can find out about where they'll live and who will care for them before they move in - helping them to prepare for a big change in their lives.

As a foster carer with Action for Children you will be is invited to create a profile during your assessment. This profile will be shared with professionals and the young people you may be matched with.

How it works

  1. Your fostering service invites you to create a profile.
  2. Your profile is shared with the young person through their social worker before moving in.
  3. The young person finds out about the home and the people they’re going to live with.
  4. You can update your profile at any time if another young person comes to live with you.

If you use photos of friends and family when you create your profile, you will need to ask them for permission by completing our consent form.

My Time In Care

My Time In Care

My Time in Care is a video series designed by young people for young people covering the most important things about being in foster care. For example, how to get settled on their first night, tips to deal with difficult emotions and how they have a say in important decisions.
