Fostering with Action for Children

Could you give Andrew a loving home?

Are you passionate about making a difference for children and have time and energy to give to a child?

Becoming a foster carer will be one of the most rewarding things you ever do. You will be providing a loving and stable home for a child who can no longer live with their family.

The children we find families for have had difficult starts in life. Some have experienced traumatic childhoods. Some only come to us as teenagers. Could you be the one to finally give them a stable place to call home?

Call us on 0845 862 0562

For an informal chat with one of our friendly team. Open from Monday to Friday 9-5

What is fostering?

Sometimes these children and young people stay with their foster carers for a long time. But unlike adoption, even in long-term foster placements, you don’t become the legal parent of the child or children.

Every child or young person has different needs, so there are different types of fostering to suit them. These include:

  • day care
  • overnight stays
  • regular planned weekends or holiday stays
  • placements that last weeks, months or several years.

Some foster carers help in emergencies, others foster those in the youth justice system or help the family of a disabled child.

Types of fostering

Who can foster?

Our foster carers come from all walks of life and a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and ethnic groups. Time, energy and the ability to provide a loving home are the most important things we are looking for in our foster carers.

The only essential requirements are that you are over 21 and have a spare bedroom.

We don’t have an upper age limit. Your sexuality, marital status or whether you own a home will not affect whether or not you can foster.
