Action for Children volunteers raise funds through John Lewis Partnership

Friday 15 December 2023
Cat & Emily John Lewis Newcastle Store fundraising weekend

From the 1st – 3rd of December, Action for Children volunteers across the UK gave up their time to take part in John Lewis Partnership's Building Happier Futures Fundraising Weekend.

Having recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of our partnership, John Lewis Partnership have once again gone above and beyond in their support for Action for Children and their other charity partners.

From Edinburgh to Exeter, Comely Bank to Cardiff, over 90 Action for Children colleagues volunteered in their local John Lewis and Waitrose stores over the weekend to speak to customers about Building Happier Futures, John Lewis Partnership’s on-going campaign to support Care Experienced young people across the UK. Last year, John Lewis Partnership’s customers helped to raise £1.1 million for Building Happier Futures.

This year, “Giving Trees” are once again bringing festive joy to shop floors. Whilst shopping in stores, customers have the option of stopping by these trees and taking a donation gift tag, ranging from £2 to £25 and adding it to their shopping basket. These donations are then split between Action for Children, Who Cares? Scotland and Home-Start UK.

Our fantastic team of volunteers took on the task of speaking to customers over the course of the weekend, encouraging them to take a donation gift tag from the tree, and spreading the word about our transformational partnership.

Nicola, one of our Action for Children volunteers who volunteered at John Lewis & Partners and Edinburgh, said after the weekend:

“I volunteered on Sunday morning in Edinburgh’s John Lewis store, it was a great day.

A huge thank-you to the John Lewis and Waitrose teams across the UK, at this time of year the huge drive and commitment to supporting care experienced young people is truly heart-warming and encouraging for the campaign to Building Happier Futures.”

Thank you to all the amazing Action for Children volunteers who took part, and to our friends at John Lewis Partnership for your incredible support during the busy festive period!
