Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a simple way to make your donation go the extra mile - without costing you a penny more.

If you use Gift Aid when you donate, for every £1 you give, we claim another 25p from Inland Revenue (HMRC), as long as you're a UK tax payer.

The best thing about Gift Aid? It doesn't cost you anything, and it doesn't affect your donation or your taxes.

Gift Aid applies to regular and/or one-off donations. It also applies if you've donated from a joint bank account, as long as the donation comes from a person who pays tax.

You can Gift Aid your donations to as many charities as you like, as long as your total tax paid covers the total Gift Aid amount (that's not the total donation, just the amount to be claimed by charities as Gift Aid).

The tax you've paid can come from:

  • income tax
  • any property or savings taxes you pay (not including ISAs)
  • any tax you pay on company shares or dividends, or on your pension

VAT and Council Tax don't apply.

A note for higher-rate taxpayers: we can only claim at the basic rate - but as a higher rate taxpayer you can reclaim the additional tax on your donations, yourself. Just include your charitable gifts on your tax self-assessment form to claim back 20%.
