Services that support disabled young people in their own homes or help them access their local community and have fun can make a real difference

Who we are

The Eilean Siar Assessment & Therapy Unit is an NHS Western Isles funded service that aims to support and assist children and young people to help them realise their full potential.

We offer support to children and young people across a range of areas, including improving fine motor skills and gross motor skills; pre speech, speech, and language skills; communication skills; supporting with PECS symbols or Makaton; life skills; and practical skills.

We also offer support and advice to their families to support the continued development of their child. A therapeutic service is also provided to children with additional needs, and their families.

How we do it

We receive a referral from a health professional or therapist requesting input. We then contact you to discuss the referral and create a plan to help your child achieve their goals.

Programmes of activities and exercises are implemented following up on assessment from Occupational Health, Physiotherapy and Speech & Language.  Our staff then work directly with your child in a variety of locations individual to your child’s specific needs. This can either be at home with parents, in the nursery or school, at our facilities in Bayhead or in the community. We will strive to engage them in activities that help them in achieving their goals. Each case is reviewed after a set period of time.

We also run a Saturday club for young people aged 12-25 with additional needs.
