The living space is open-plan, incorporating a homely lounge, dining area, and kitchen to promote a sense of belonging and community. A dedicated sensory room offers opportunities for emotional regulation and relaxation, supporting therapeutic goals for children with diverse needs. The bathroom includes both a bathtub and overhead shower, enabling choice and comfort in daily routines.
Outdoor spaces include gardens to the front and rear of the home, encouraging engagement with nature and seasonal activities that enhance emotional resilience. In addition, the young person enjoys access to the park and stage areas within the school grounds, providing opportunities for creative expression and physical activity both during school hours and home time.
Our ethos is grounded in therapeutic relationships and co-production. We actively involve the young person in decisions about décor, meal planning, and activities, fostering independence and mastery. This collaborative approach ensures that care is personalised, culturally sensitive, and aligned with the principles of voice, choice, and control.
By creating a warm, inclusive, and structured environment, Ty Canol promotes safety, trust, and empowerment, key components of trauma-informed and therapeutic care. Our goal is to enable every child to thrive, develop resilience, and build positive relationships that support long-term well-being.
How to refer
Our referral process consists of three stages that ensure we facilitate a positive experiencing and matching process. Our priority is providing a home for young people who can best benefit from what we offer here.
Stage 1
The referral information is gathered and assessed by the admissions panel to decide if the young person’s needs can potentially be met.
Stage 2
Further information is collected through visits and feedback from residential and school teams before the panel reviews suitability again.
Stage 3
The young person and family attend a visit, and a final decision is made about progressing to an overnight stay.
