Supporting young people aged 8 – 18 in the Outer Hebrides.
Who we are
Action for Children helps the most vulnerable children and young people in Scotland break through injustice, deprivation and inequality so they can achieve their full potential.
Action for Children and Western Isles Women’s Aid have both been established services in the Outer Hebrides for over fifteen years. Both services have worked extensively with children, young people and their families.
The services, which are both located in the Bayhead area of Stornoway, provide support to children, young people and their families who may have been affected by violence against women.
What we do
We work with young people aged 8 – 18 years. Through an individual and group basis we aim to support young people to:
- Build self-esteem and emotional wellbeing
- Promote self-efficiency
- Encourage peer support
- Introduce children and young people to other community-based therapeutic / leisure activities
- Address any relationship issues
How we do it
We will provide both one to one and group sessions where children and young people are supported and encouraged to share their concerns and build up their confidence.
We will introduce goal setting and achieving, building on an existing interest of the child or young person and introducing them to new activities.
Through community-based activities we will encourage young people to develop effective coping strategies and encourage peer support.
We will encourage young people to develop safe plans and participate in healthy relationships.
We will base our support around the needs and wishes of the child or young person, being flexible re times, venues and key worker.
