Practical advice and support

All parents and carers need support at some point.

Being a parent can be a challenging time as no child comes with an instruction manual in those early years. We know our stuff, after working with different families for over 145 years we can offer you friendly, practical advice.

We can help you with understanding your child and their development or with practical support such as resolving debt issues, housing problems or getting back into work.

Last year we helped 150,000 parents with advice and support.

We have many different services across the UK where you can get help. You can drop into one of our 200 children and family centres.

Leanne

Meet Leanne

Leanne goes to one of our parents group, where children are looked after in the crèche so the parents can socialise with other mums and dads.

She says, "I’d moved here from a different area and felt very isolated. I was depressed so I didn’t go out and didn’t take my youngest to baby groups. He was quite shy and didn’t have any social skills, so when I got involved with Action for Children and started taking him to my local centre and putting him in a group with other kids was brilliant for him."

She’s also goes to parenting classes to learn about child development and get advice on positive play and other parenting tips.
