Kier Group
Supporting children and young people to build brighter futures
Action for Children are thrilled to be partnering with leading infrastructure, construction and property development provider, Kier Group. Through our two-year partnership from 2025-2027, we’ll be supporting children and young people to build brighter futures.
Every 15 minutes, a child goes into care in the UK. They’ve often already faced huge challenges in their young lives. Over half will have suffered neglect and abuse. Many will have experienced trauma. And now they’re in care, the world sees them differently.
That’s simply not okay.
Because they’re a child, like any other. A child that deserves to feel safe and loved. And to thrive as they grow up.
Action for Children and Kier Group’s partnership will work directly towards helping to give children in care and young people across the UK exactly that – the foundations they need to thrive.
The world might see children in care differently. But they deserve the same as any child.
A new initiative designed to tackle inequality and enhance social mobility for young people - particularly those with care experience - the Kier Building Brighter Futures Programme will be the foundation of our partnership.
Kier has set an ambition to raise £250,000 across the two-year partnership, focusing on two key areas:
- Transition Workers: Providing one-to-one support for care-experienced young people on vital areas like employment, housing, life skills, and emotional wellbeing.
- Employability: Services that provide training and career support, access to placements, and development of soft skills – helping to improve career prospects for vulnerable young people. This includes supporting our YouthBuild programmes.
- What is YouthBuild? YouthBuild is Action for Children’s flagship construction skills programme that we have been delivering since 2007. It is a training programme that focuses on 16–24-year-olds who want to begin their career in construction. We offer the programme across our centres in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverclyde and aim to match the young people who attend our courses with employers looking to grow their work force.
How we'll make a difference together
Fundraising
Whether it’s sleeping out at Action for Children’s Boycott your Bed events, running a marathon, hosting a bake sale or taking part in workplace-matched funding – Kier’s fundraising will support vital services and employability programmes. Because every step, every challenge and every pound can make a difference.
We’ve already raised more than £100,000 together, allowing us to deliver vital programmes that deliver positive impact for children, families and young people across the UK.
Volunteering
Kier colleagues are expected to contribute around 200 volunteering days over two years to support on key projects. That could be supporting an event, providing insight to their career journey, or helping at an Action for Children service. Whatever they’re doing, Kier colleagues will be donating their time to make a difference and help deliver community-based initiatives.
To date Kier have taken part in hundreds of hours of volunteering, supporting at flagship events like our Ultimate News Quiz, painting and redecorating our services, and undertaking maintenance of outdoor spaces.
Donating pro-bono support
Construction, HR, digital or legal. Whatever their area of work, Kier’s team of 10,000+ colleagues have a wealth of invaluable experience, professional and practical skills that can support our work and help change lives.
Our partnership with Kier will have impact across all for nations of the UK, supporting children and young people to build brighter futures, no matter where they are, and giving them the foundations they need to thrive.
