In 2018/19, we helped 387,000 children, young people and their families.

We did this in 476 local services across the UK, as well as in schools and online. We increased our reach this year by 86,000, mainly through new digital services. Online parenting support services, including Talk and Dots, offer advice, guidance and signposting to thousands of families across the UK. We also launched Build Sound Minds, our new mental health and wellbeing platform.

Brexit dominated politics in 2018/19, which made it difficult for campaigners to influence government policy. Despite this, we campaigned strongly and made several important breakthroughs during the year. With the help of thousands of our incredible supporters, we asked MPs to pressure the government to reinvest in children and Choose Childhood. In the last year, politicians and the media have shown a growing interest in the issue, giving us something positive to build on in 2019/20.

Safe and happy childhood

Our 2018/19 report tracks our progress against our objectives for our five-year strategy and looks at the impact our services have made. It still focuses on three things – doing what’s right, doing what’s needed and doing what works for children.

We developed these aims in conjunction with children and young people, and they resonate strongly with our supporters, staff and volunteers.  Our strategy is firmly based on children’s needs - what they need to grow and develop, what they need from people who look after them, and what they need from the wider world.
